Wineries

Located in the heart of the DOCa Rioja wine region, it is the oldest winery in the city, whose construction dates back to 1801. We are currently improving and expanding the production capacity of the winery to accommodate new production projects following our aim of making wines that show our differentiated quality, combining traditional processes with new technologies.

the winery is built in a natural mountain slope, it is the only winery of that time with vertical design and still in use today, the winery design allows the entire elaboration process can be carried out following a  gravity  model in five floors that compose it.

This concept of gravity seeks that the use of machinery intervenes as little as possible in the process of transformation from grape to wine and therefore, better preserves all its natural properties. In this way, each phase of the process takes place on one floor and the wine passes from one level to another in a natural way without manipulation or intervention of machinery, which ensures the production of the highest quality wines.

The cellar cellars are located in what were the old galleries of the city’s castle, dating from the Middle Ages. Underground caves that, in their time, served as underground communication galleries within the city, being used as an escape route, since it was directly connected to the outside of the city. These underground galleries maintain constant humidity and temperature throughout the year, achieving ideal conditions for resting and improving our wines.

All the previous work is carried out under the experience of a long history of over 130 years guarantee.

Marqués de Butrago

In the old days, in a municipality called Butrago lived a marqués that owned a sea of vineyards overlooking the Ebro river. Wine was his passion and he decided to planted vineyards all over, that are almost like a viewpoint to the river. Today, these vineyards and those old vineyards are owned by the Fernández de Manzanos family. Their excellent grapes they elaborate a classic wine for those seeking the most traditional style.

Winemakers

Victor and David Fernández de Manzanos are the fifth generation of a family dedicated to wine´s world, more than 130 years committed body and soul to the cultivation of the vine and the elaboration of quality wines in DOCa Rioja, one of the most relevant appellations in the world.

The Fdez. De Manzanos brothers were born in the land of wine par excellence which have grown between vineyards, wineries and wines, currently are dedicated body and soul to develop the legacy received in 2010 by the previous 4 generations, from that year began a rigorous work on finding the most exclusive terroirs, selection of the best grapes, and overseeing every elaboration in order to achieve its consistent goal: “to share with us your passion, WINE.”

Vineyards

DOCa Rioja has a very particular climate and soils for the growth of the grape varieties from which the wines of great quality and personality are elaborated that distinguish us from the rest of the world appellations. Our vineyards are spread throughout the denomination distributed in different strategic points, this allows us to explore the qualities of each terroir and its singularities, in this way we can make a selection on each plot to produce each type of wine. In turn, the viticulture we practice is sustainable, always respecting the environment.

Terroir

The confluence of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean climate, smooth temperatures, regular rainfall and the air currents generated by our unique wind “Cierzo”, make up an excellent microclimate for growing grapes. In addition, we have different types of soil, among which the three best known predominate: calcareous clay, ferrous clay and alluvial.

All the above together with the different ages of the vines and trellises or bush constitute an ideal ecosystem for the optimal development of our vineyards.
